South Pacific Cruise - Days 18-22
Sailing from Tahiti to Hawaii
Days 18 through 21 of our Epic Adventure have all been at sea as we sail north towards Hawaii. The days of this amazing adventure are coming to a close, so we’re taking in every minute of the experience before we return to the real world. Marcus danced the night away at center stage during the deck party. He was probably trying to get the escargot out of his system that he tried at dinner.
One of the coolest experiences of this journey was crossing the equator. This is a time honored maritime tradition filled with superstition. We were joined by King Neptune (aka The Captain) and partook in the maritime traditions that marked this unique event. The crew came out on deck and went through the whole ceremony. It was great to watch and be a part of.
As suite guests we were invited to tour the Bridge during one of the days. It’s a surprisingly large and relaxing space. Marcus even got to sit in the captains chair.
As the location picture shows, we are literally in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and have now sailed over 5,500nm since we left the harbor in Sydney over 2-weeks ago. Our final full day at sea we enjoyed great music, a couples massage, some reading and even tried kangaroo filet for dinner. It was really good.
Day 22 of this amazing experience brings a close to the cruise portion of our trip. We’ve sailed over 6,000nm from Syndey to our morning arrival in Honolulu. We’ve had the luxury of meeting some simply amazing people. Four groups from Australia and a couple from Atlanta that we were lucky enough to have as suite neighbors. These are people we’ve truly connected with on many levels. All have invited us into their homes whenever we are in their town. One couple offered to take Marcus for the summer in Australia. This type of connection just doesn’t happen in the real world and we are simply humbled by the friendships we’ve made. Tomorrow brings us to Honolulu where we set foot on real land and begin our slow reorientation to real life. We’ll spend the rest of the week in Hawaii then head back to reality. My friends, take it from me, get out of your comfort zone and travel the world. The connections, the education, the perspective you gain is worth every penny.
