Florence, Italy
We arrived in Florence, Italy on Day 4 of our 12-day Mediterranean Cruise. We docked at this stop so we didn’t have to be tendered in this morning. Our excursion to Tuscany for wine tasting didn’t start until mid-day, so we decided to wake up the lazy teenager (who was out very late partying it up) and walk around Florence for a bit. It was a tough city to just pop in and take a look around, but we did enjoy some of the canals and the architecture. While we were wondering aimlessly around the city Nana and Peggy headed to Pisa to see the sites. The crowds were thick as they arrived, but they managed it brilliantly by getting a new guide to show them around this historic city. They returned exhausted, yet accomplished.
Tuscany Wine Tasting
After our aimless wondering it was time for us to head to the Tuscan region for some wine tasting. We had a private tasting at a large 16th century estate originally owned by the famous Medici family. The grounds of Fattoria Dianella were stunning, once we made it to the top of the rickety little hill without falling over the edge in our motorcoach that was way too big for it. They prepared 3 of their 5 primary varietals for us to taste. Marcus was served full pours and enjoyed the tasting. Full disclosure, I was a good Dad and finished all his tastings for him. The setting could not have been more picaresque – Rolling hillsides, filled with vineyards and olive trees, it was quintessential Italy.
Back On Board
To finish our busy day we sat on our balcony, the waves lapping against the hull of the ship with the sun setting as we sail away from Florence. Not a bad day.
